Autotrophic bacteria synthesize their own organic food from inorganic substances like carbon dioxide. They are of two types: Photoautotrophs and chemoautotrophs. Photoautotrophic bacteria such as purple sulphur bacteria use solar energy for the synthesis of their own food. Chemoautotrophs such as NItrobacter use chemicals to produce food.
