The electric flux through a given surface area is the total number of electric lines of force passing normally this area. It is given by
The SI unit of electric flux = Nm2C-1.
According to Gauss's theorem, the total flux through a closed surface is 1/ ε0 times the total charge enclosed by the closed surface.
Derivation: Consider a non-conducting sheet of charge with surface charge density 
. Consider a cylinder of length 2r and cross - sectional area A as Gaussian surface.
From symmetry electric field 
points at right angle to the end caps and away from the sheet. There is no contribution from the curved surface because angle between 
is 90o.
At the end faces, angle between is zero.
