What is carbon-12 isotope?How did it come in use?

- There are different isotopes of carbon such as carbon-12, carbon-14 etc.
- In carbon-12 isotope, there are 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons are present.
- The mass number of this isotope becomes 12 (6 protons + 6 neutrons).
- Hence, this isotope is referred as carbon-12 isotope.
- It is the most naturally occuring isotope.
Uses of carbon-12 isotope:
- Carbon-12 is used in as referrence for the measurement of atomic weight.
- The ratio of caron-12 to carbon-14 is used in the age determination of a formerly living thing.
