Expert Answer
Backlash error occurs in screw gauge, when we try to rotate the screw very fast to measure a reading
then there is some slipping between the different screws instead of the rotation, which gives an incorrect reading,
to avoid this we should rotate the screw slowly in only one direction. sometimes due to wear and tear in the
screw gauge the circular scale does not move at once if the ratchet is rotated. this causes an error in finding the
pitch of the screw gauge. This is knows as the backlash error of the screw gauge but it can be cured
by not rotating the circular scale immediately to the other direction but waiting for sometime and
making the scale stable and then rotating it.
