What happens if the galvanometer and cell are interchanged at the balance point of the bridge ? Would the galvanometer show any current ?

Expert Answer
Left side of fgure shows a given Wheatstone bridge.
Right side figure shows the changed Wheatstone bridge so that battery and Galvanometer are interchanged.
As seen from figure both are symmetrical.
For left side figure, we have balanced condition, ( R1 / R2 ) = (R3 / R4 ) ...........................(1)
For right side figure , we have balanced condition, ( R1 / R3 ) = (R2 / R4 ) .........................(2)
It can be checked mathematically that if balanced condition given in eqn.(1) is true, the other one given in eqn.(2) is also true
At balanced condition , deflection in the galvanometer is null for both the circuits
