Sky waves are not used in transmitting TV signals. Why? How can the range of TV signals be increased?

Expert Answer
The television signals have frequencies in 100-200 MHz range.Sky waves cannot be used in transmitting TV signals having frequency more than 80 MHz, because these waves are not reflected back by the ionosphere and penetrate into the outer space.
The range of TV transmission can be increased by
(i) increasing the height of transmission tower of TV station, or
(ii) by using the satellite communication method(geostationary satellites)
