Ans 2. Five characteristics of the Himalayas are:
- They are young fold mountains formed in recent geological ages.
- They have high peaks and deep valleys.
- These mountain ranges run in a west-east direction from the Indus to the Brahmaputra.
- The width of the mountains varies from 400 Km in Kashmir to 150 Km in Arunachal Pradesh.
- The Himalayas can be divided into three ranges: the Himadri (northern most range), the Himachal (lie to the south of the Himadri) and the Siwaliks (outer range).
