You can refer to the below points to prepare the project on –“Forest our lifeline".

  • The major forests found in India include Gir National Park, Jim Corbett National Park, Kanha National Park, Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Bandipur National Park. Other famous forests in India include Nagarhole, Namdapha, Wayanad wildlife sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park.
  • Major animals found in Indian forests include Lion-tailed macaque, Indian bison, Bengal tiger, Red panda, Asiatic lion, Snow leopard. Other animals found in Indian forests include the Indian leopard, Indian rhinoceros, Indian White-Rumped Vulture, Cobra, Cheetah, Python, Monitor Lizard, Indian Crocodile. Common trees in Indian forests include the Indian Mahogany, Gulmohar, Neem, Amla, Peepal, Banyan, Eucalyptus, Deodar. 
  • Plants and animals are interdependent in a forest. Plants and animals depend on each other for survival. Plants depend on animals for pollination, nutrients from decomposed animal bodies and seed dispersal. Animals depend on plants for food, shelter, protection, and oxygen. Plants and animals also help to maintain the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the environment. Plants produce oxygen, which animals need for breathing. When animals die, they decompose and become natural fertilizer for plants.z
  • Here are some forest products and their uses: 
  1. Fruits: Forests contain native fruits, such as melons, bananas, and wild fruits.
  2. Mushrooms: A large amount of edible mushrooms are harvested in forests.
  3. Pulp and paper: The markets for pulp and paper products differ from wood products markets.
  4. Biomass: Biomass is a source of chemicals and materials, including forestry residues, energy crops, organic wastes, and agricultural residues. 
  5. Timber: Timber is processed wood of any shape and size. 
  6. Bamboo: Bamboo fibers are used to make bedding and clothing.
  • Deforestation can be caused by:
  1. Lack of knowledge about the need to conserve forests
  2. Natural causes like global warming, landslides, earthquakes, hail, strong winds, hurricanes, and lighting
  3. Forest fires
  • Deforestation can have many effects, including climate change, soil erosion, biodiversity loss, water cycle disruption and loss of habitat.
  • Here are some ways to minimize deforestation:
  1. Plant trees
  2. Reduce paper use
  3. Recycle paper and cardboard
  4. Buy sustainable wood products
  5. Avoid palm oil
  6. Reduce meat consumption
  7. Support reforestation efforts
  8. Reduce demand for products made from illegally-logged timber
  9. Eat sustainable food
  10. Avoid single-use packaging
  11. Reduce your carbon footprint
