Youngs modulus Y is given by
Mass M, Length L and acceleration due to gravity g are exact and can be treated as constant for error analysis.
where k is constant. Relative error in Y due to error in chage of length l and error in diameter d is given by
(Δl/l) = (.05/0.8) = 0.0625 ; (Δd/d) = 0.01/0.4 =0.025 ; (ΔY/Y) = 0.0625+2(0.025)= 0.1125;
 
error in value of Y = 2×1011 N/m2 is given by ±ΔY = 2×1011×0.1125 = ±0.225×1011 N/m2 or ±0.2×1011 N/m2
 
hence Y = (2±0.2)×1011 N/m2
