Saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons undergo rapid photoinitiated chlorination by t-butyl hypochlorite.
 
The order of selectivity of C-H bond is follows as : Primary < secodary < tertiary for both purely aliphatic and benzylic C-H bonds.
