In the given figure, two points p and Q are located at distance r and r' respectively from a bar magnet.
Assume that the distance r is much greater than the length of the magnet. If r = 2r', then what is the ratio of magnitude of magnetic fields at P and Q?

Expert Answer
P is a point lying on the axial line of a bar magnet. Hence, the magnitude of the magnetic field at P is given as
.....(1)
Where, M is the magnetic moment of the bar magnet.
Also, Q is a point lying on the equatorial line of the bar magnet, Hence the magnitude of the magnetic filed at Q is given as
......(2)
Taking ratio of both the equation, we obtain
It is given that r = 2r'
The required ratio is 1:8.
