ICSE Class 9 Answered
In a small hydraulic press , the diameter of the effort plunger and load plunger are 1 cm and 10 cm respectively. find the effort needed to raise a load of 1570 N, and the pressure inside the apparatus while this is being done. Take π=3.14.

Expert Answer
Load on load plunger = 1570 N
Crosssection area of load plunger = 3.14 × 5 × 10-2 × 5 × 10-2 = 7.85 × 10-3
Hence pressure inside the apparatus = force / area = 1570 / ( 7.85 × 10-3 ) = 2 × 105 N m-2
Effort on Effort plunger = pressure × area = ( 2 × 105 ) × ( 3.14 × 0.5 × 10-2 × 0.5 × 10-2 ) = 15.7 N
