if we break a solid why it is only solid?

Expert Answer
Breaking a solid splits it into many small parts. Each of those parts are solids.
This is because breaking does not change the phase of the solid.
A solid is made up of molecules arranged in a definite pattern. When the solid breaks the pattern does not break and individual small pieces of the broken solid retain that pattern and remain in solid state.
To change the phase of the solid, temperature and pressure needs to be changed and mere breaking does not change the state.
