Q.30  The net force acting on the mass is upward and at its greatest magnitude at what level?
 
(E) at Z
 
At position Z, the spring is at the state of maximum stretched position. When the string is at maximum stretched position,
magnitude of restoring force is maximum and this restoring force will try to compress.
Hence force is upward and magnitude is maximum.
 
Q. 31)   When the mass is at X,
 
(C) it has potential energy not kinetic energy.
 
when mass is at X , spring is at maximum compressed position and movement of mass is stopped.
when the spring is at maximum compressed position, workdone on spring during compression is stored as
potential energy and this is maximum when spring is compressed fully.
 
Since mass is coming to rest at position X and due to the maximum compression of spring,
the mass has only potential energy but not kineteic energy
