from a point p on the ground the angle of elevation of the top of a tower is 30 degrees and that of the top of a flag staff fixed on the top of the tower, is 60 degrees. if the length of the flag staff is 5m, find the height of the tower.

Let space AB space denotes space the space height space of space the space tower space and space BC space denotes space the space height space of space the space flag.  tan space 30 degree space equals AB over AP AP space equals space square root of 3 AB........ left parenthesis 1 right parenthesis  tan space 60 degree space equals AC over AP AP space equals space fraction numerator 1 over denominator square root of 3 end fraction space left parenthesis AB plus 5 right parenthesis........ left parenthesis 2 right parenthesis  From space left parenthesis 1 right parenthesis space and space left parenthesis 2 right parenthesis space we space get  fraction numerator 1 over denominator square root of 3 end fraction open parentheses AB plus 5 close parentheses space equals space square root of 3 space AB 3 AB space equals space AB space plus space 5 2 AB space equals space 5 AB space equals space 2.5  Height space of space the space tower space is space 2.5 straight m.
