(a) What is the value of latent heat of fusion of ice? (b) Why is ice at 273 K more effective in cooling than water at the same temperature?

(a) The latent heat of fusion of ice is 3.34 x 105 J/kg.

(b) At 273 K, for melting, ice absorbs 3.34 x 105 J/kg of latent heat from the substance but water at 273 K cannot take any such latent heat from the substance and hence ice is more effective in cooling than water at 273 K.
