Expert Answer
Mass of solid in air = 0.144 kg
Mass of solid in water = 0.128 kg
loss of weight in water = 0.144 - 0.128 = 0.016 kg = 16 gm
loss of weight in water is due to weight of displaced water that has same volume of solid.
hence displaced volume of water = mass/density = (16×10-3) / 1000 = 16×10-6 m3
Volume of solid = 16×10-6 m3 ; density of solid = 0.144/(16×10-6 m3 ) = 9000 kg/m3 ;
loss of weight in liquid = 0.144 - 0.136 = 0.008 kg
displaced liquid mass = 0.008 kg ;
displace liquid volume is same as volume of solid = 16×10-6 m3
density of liquid = mass/ volume = 0.008 / (16×10-6) = 2000 kg/m3
