Expert Answer
The depression in the beam is given by the below formula,
δ = WL3 / 4Ybd3
Here, W is weight, L is length of the rod, Y is the Young's modulus of elasticity, b is breadth of the rod while d is the depth.
From the formula we can say that
depression δ is directly proportional to W, L3 and inversely proportional to Y, b, d3
Or we can say that depression is direcly proportional to inverse of Young's modulus i.e.,
