Expert Answer
Let uo be initial velocity
If S3 and u3 are distance travelled and velocity at end of its third second of motion ,
Then S3 = u2 + (1/2)a = uo + 2a + (1/2)a = uo + (5/2) a = 12 m ................(1)
If S5 and u5 are distance travelled and velocity at end of its fifth second of motion ,
Then S5 = u4 + (1/2)a = uo + 4a + (1/2)a = uo + (9/2)a = 20 m ..................(2)
By solving eqn.(1) and (2), we get a = 4 m/s2
