4 years ago ,the age of a mother was 3 times the age of her daughter.Write the linear equation in two veriables to represent the statement.

Let age of mother now = x and age of daughter now = y
 
4 years ago, age of mother =  ( x-4 )
4 years ago, age of daughter = ( y - 4 )
 
(x-4) = 3(y-4)  or  (x-4)  = 3y - 12
