Dear Student,
Separation of solid mixtures of sugar and sand.
- Sugar is soluble in water while sand is insoluble in water.
- This mixture is taken in a beaker.
- So, water is added to the mixture of sugar and sand. kept in the beaker.
- Sugar is dissolved in water completely and sand remains as sediment at the bottom of the beaker.
- This solution is allowed to pass through a filter paper cone below which evaporating dish is kept.
- The clear sugar solution is collected in evaporating dish and sand can not pass through the filter paper. Hence stuck on the filter paper as residue.
- The sand is washed with clean water, dried and collected from filter paper.
- The sugar solution is evaporated slowly to get back sugar crystals.
- The sugar crystals seprated out from sugar solution on evaporation are dried and collected.
- Thus, the mixture of sugar and sand can be seprated.
