The common land was essential for the poor for survival because they could collect fruits and berries, firewood, fish in lakes and rivers and hunt in forests located in the vicinity of the common lands. . This helped them in earning additional income. They also grazed their cattle in the common lands. This supplemented their income in the time of crisis when crops failed.
