why sulphuric acid not used during reactions of alcohols with KI
Asked by lokesh WARAN | 29th Dec, 2013, 09:54: PM
Sulphuric acid oxidises iodide ions (from the hydrogen iodide produced) to iodine and hence there is hardly any hydrogen iodide left for the formation of alkyl iodide.
Therefore, Phosphoric (V) acid is used instead of concentrated sulphuric acid.
