why does the magnetic field of a solenoid increase when a soft iron bar is placed inside it.

Expert Answer:
The soft iron bar brings the magnetic field lines close, so that when we put it inside the solenoid more and more magnetic field lines are packed through the solenoid, and magnetic field strength increases. Hence we do so.
