Why do we take insulin injections and not directly?

Expert Answer:
- The medicine for diabetes is insulin which is a protein.
- Insulin cannot be taken by mouth and swallowed because the digestive juices in the stomach and intestine will break down and digest the insulin protein completely before it has a chance to get into your bloodstream to do its task.
- Hence, insulin is taken in the form of injection and not directly through the mouth.
