Expert Answer
All plants have starch in their green leaves. So, before we use a plant in photosynthesis experiment, the initial starch present in its leaves must be removed. Therefore, the plant must be destarched by keeping the plant in a completely dark room for at least 3 days. During this period, the plant cannot make more starch by photosynthesis as there is no sunlight and will use up all the starch stored in its leaves. This destarched plant can then be used in photosynthesis experiments to obtain accurate results.
