When 2 lenses of different power are joined together, What is the power of the combined lenses?

Well, both the statements are absolutely correct.
Pls note that Power and Magnification of a lens are two different concepts.
Power is the ability of a lens to bend the rays passing through it whereas magnification is basically the ratio of the size of the image to the size of the object.
Total power of two or more lenses = sum of their individual powers
Total magnification produced by two lenses = Product of magnification of the individual lenses
