What is the difference between an axiom and a postulate?

Postulate is something which is assumed without proof as being self-evident or generally accepted, especially when used as a basis for an argument
Axiom is a proposition that is not proved or demonstrated but considered to be self-evident, . Therefore, its truth is taken for granted, and serves as a starting point for deducing and inferring other (theory dependent) theory
