Resistor is used in electric or electronic circuits to regulate the current or resistors are used in potential divider in circuits

Figure shown above is a circuit, where a device is connected to electrical power supply of potential differece V through a resistor R.
If the device resistance is r, then current i passing through the device is given by, i = V / ( R + r)
We can regulate the current i , by changing resistance value of R.

Above figure shows series combination of two resistances R1 and R2 is connected to power supply of potential difference V .
If we take potential difference across R2 , we get potential difference = V × [ R2 / ( R1 + R2 ) ] .

Above figure shows the resistance used in electrical and electronic circuits. Color code gives the resistance value.
Resistance is the property of resistor. Unit for resistance is Ohm
