The main role of the judiciary is to protect the rule of law and ensure its supremacy. It also safeguards individual rights and ensures that democracy does not give way to dictatorship.
The judiciary is made up of all the courts in a country, including the Supreme Court, high courts, and district and local courts. The judiciary can also be given the power to strike down laws it deems unconstitutional.
