CBSE Class 9 Answered
Were the observations predicted from alpha-particle scattering experiment based on Thomson's model of atom correct?

Expert Answer
On the basis of Thomson's model of atom, Rutherford expected that most of the alpha particles striking the gold atoms would pass through the gold foil with less deflection but this was not the case. Most of the alpha particles passed straight through the gold foil undeflected and very few were deflected through small and large angles.
