The slits in Young's double slit experiment are illuminated by two different sodium lamps emitting light of same wavelength. Will you observe any interference pattern?

The two electric lamps cannot act as coherent sources and therefore a stable interference pattern cannot be obtained. The emission of light in bulbs is due to million of atoms in which electrons jump from higher orbits to lower orbits Each transition lasts for about 10-9 s. This means that phase difference can remain constant for about 10-9 s. In other words, the phase will change about 109 times in one second. Such a rapid change in interference pattern cannot be detected by the eye or by any other device.No interference pattern will be obtained.
