In BeF3- the central atom does not use sp3 hybrid orbitals in its bonding.Instead the central atom Be is sp2 hybridised

Expert Answer
The electronic configuration of Be is 1s2 2s2.
One electron is promoted from 2s orbital to 2p orbital.So the electronic configuration become is 1s2 2s12p1.
Now, Be combine with 3 F atoms using its one s and two p-orbital to form sp2 hybridisation.
