we know that ax2+bx+c = 0 has its roots equal to

x =  ( -b ± (b2-4ac) ) /2a

here a=1 , b=2, c=5

putting the values of a,b,c

x = ( -2 ±(22-4*5) ) /2   = ( -2 ±-16 )  /2 = -1 2i   where i=-1

so the values of x are imaginary.

it can also be seen from the fact that (b2-4ac) = -16 <0  which means roots of this equation are not real.
