Expert Answer
Tensile stress is due to perpendicular component T = FSinθ ,
tensile stress = T/A where A is area of the plane making an angle θ with horizontal.
Tensile stress is maximum when θ = 90°
Shear stress is due to component parallel to plane S = Fcosθ
Shear stress = S/A
Shear stress is maximum when θ = 0 degree
Above statements are meant for force acting on right side.
Similarly we can workout the tensile stress and shear stress for the force acting on left side
