Multiplication factor is the number of neutron that can cause the next nuclear reaction.
It helps to decide where the nuclear chain reaction will sustain itself, die out eventually or go unstable.
Thus, it gives help information regarding the stablity and meltdown scenerios of the nuclear plant.
