Let the father's age today is x years.

 So two years ago his age was  (x-2) yrs.

Let the son's age today is y yrs.

 So two yrs ago his age was (y-2) yrs.

According to question,

x-2=5(y-2)

i.e.

x-5y=12...(i)

Next,

 two years later the father's age would be (x+2) yrs and son's age would be (y+2) yrs.

So,

 acc to qn,

x+2=[3(y+2)]+8

i.e.

x-3y=12..(ii)

Solving (i) and (ii) we get,

y=10

 and

 x=42
