Polarization of light means restricting the vibrations during transverse wave motion to a single plane. During transverse wave motion, the vibration is perpendicular to the direction in which the wave is travelling . There are many different directions in which this can occur.

This can be done by polarizers ( eg. tourlamine crystal).

Applications :

1) some sun glasses polarize light passing through them, reducing glare.

2) In wind sheild in automobiles.

3) In 3-D motion pictures.
