Please tell me how does a potentiometer work? Can it be connected to a battery? What does a potentiometer tell ? Explain with figure, if possible.

A potentiomenter works on the principal that the resistance of a wire is directly proportional to its length, so for a given battery connected to it, it has a fixed potential drop per nit length.
It can be connected to a battery, in fact it works when we connect to a battery.
it tells about the potential difference.
