In this question I cannot undestand the portion which I have highlighted because according to my opinion  intensity at point P will be I=4Io cos^2(phii/2).

Yes, you are correct. Intensity is given by begin mathsize 12px style I space equals space 4 I subscript 0 cos squared ϕ over 2 end style
4I0 is the central spot intensity (at point O). Required answer may be one-fourth of central intensity. Book which has given this problem had assumed the central spot intensity as I0
