in an examination a student requires 40%of the total marks to pass. if rupa gets 185 marks and fails by 15 marks find the total number

In the question it is given that Rupa fails by 15 marks. So if we add 15 marks to what she obtained, i.e. 185, she would pass.
So taking the pass marks as 185 + 15 = 200.
Now the pass % is 40 and let 'x' be the total numbers.
40% of x = 200

straight x space equals space fraction numerator 200 cross times 100 over denominator 40 end fraction
