ICSE Class 9 Answered
In a circle of radius 17 cm, two parallel
chords of lengths 30 cm and 16 cm ar
drawn. Find the distance between the chords
if both the chords are
(i) on the opposite sides of the centre
(ii) on the same side of the centre

On opposite side
here , XY is the perpendicular distance
now perpendicular from center will bisect the chord
AX=15
AO = 17...(radius)
apply pythagoras to find
OX=8cm
similarly in triangle OCY
OY=15 cm
total XY = 23 cm
Now find the distance in case 2 on the same side of the centre
XY = 7cm
