Qusetion: If the number in AP are such that their sum is 50 and the greatest number is 4 times the list then the number are
Solution:
Let the four numbers be a , a + d, a + 2d and a + 3d
According to the 1st condition in the question, we get
a + a + d + a + 2d + a + 3d = 50
→ 4a + 6d = 50
→ 2a + 3d = 25 .... (1)
According to the 2nd condition in the question, we get
a + 3d = 4a
→ 3a = 3d
→ a = d
Substitute a = d in (1), we get
5d = 25
→ d = 5
→ a = 5
Therefore the four numbers are a= 5, a + d = 10, a + 2d=15 and a + 3d=20.
