In any diagram
Series combination means: One end connected to the voltage source. When only one end of the resistance is connected to one end of a resistance (ie, the other end is either connected to one end of some other resistance or to the voltage source) then that combination is Series combination.
Parallel combination means: End to end connection. When both the ends of the resistances are connected to the ends of the same resistance then it is a parallel connection.
