How do I differentiate  between spectral line and photon?

Just like elements are made up of atoms and compounds are made up of molecule, spectral lines are made up of photons.

Spectral line,  which is light,  have dual behaviour, it acts like a wave in wave phenomena like diffraction and interference and
also acts like particle which is called as photons in photo-electric effect and compton effect.
 
Just like sensing one atom or one molecule is not possible, sensing a single photon is also not possible.
