how can the refractive index of glass change?

this is due to the fact that light rays of different color (different wavelength) travel with different speed and hence have different refractive index,
δm = (n-1) / A, where n is the refractive index and δm is the angle of deviation hence different colors will deviate with different angles and dispersion will occur.
