Biodegradable wastes are not harmful to the environment. It is the non-biodegradable wastes that are harmful, since they persist in the environment and harm the various members of the ecosystem. The only precaution that should be taken with biodegradable waste is that they should not be produced in abundance but in amounts in which the environment can degrade them. This will prevent their accumulation in environment.
