CBSE Class 10 Answered

What is the significance of coliform bacteria?

Asked by officialmehak26 | 06 Feb, 2020, 09:12: PM
Expert Answer
  • Coliform bacteria are rod-shaped, Gram-negative, non-spore forming and motile or non-motile bacteria.
  • They are present in the environment and in the feces of all warm-blooded animals and humans.
  • Most coliform bacteria do not cause illness. However, these bacteria are used as indicators in water tests because their presence indicates that disease-causing organisms (pathogens) could also be in the water.
