Answer (E) II and III only
Explanation :- (I) gravitational force exerted by earth on Sun is same as gravitational force exerted by sun on earth
(II) acceleration of earth due to force exerted by sun is proportional to mass of sun.
Similarly acceleration of sun due to force exerted by earth is proportional to mass of earth.
Since mass of sun is greater than mass of earth, acceleration of earth due to force exerted by sun is greater than
acceleration of sun due to force exerted by earth
(III) we have gravitational force that provides centripetal force so that earth orbits around the sun in elliptical path.
If m is mass of earth, M is mass of sun, G is gravitation constant, r is radial distance between center of earth and
center of sun and v is the speed of earth in elliptical orbit, then
Hence speed of earth in elliptical orbit varies with distance R
