We know, that the like poles of magnet repels while, unlike poles attracts. Also, repulsion is the sure test of magnetism.
If both the cases, i. Q4 and Q5., the conditions given only suggests the attraction between the two rods and not repulsion. Thus, The correct option is Option (C)
i.e. either one or both rods are permanent magnet. As the condition of repulsion is not given we cannot come to the conclusion that both the rods are permanet magnet. But as there is attraction between the rods one of the rod has to be permanent magnet.
In case (1), 2 attracts 3
So, end 2 can be north pole and 3 can be south pole or vice versa.
And in case (2) as end (2) and (3) are north and south pole respectively, end (1) and (4) will be north and south pole respectively. But, it can also be considered that either of the two is not a permanent magnet and can be a magnetic material.
Thus, option (C) is correct option.
